South of Superior

I actually took this photo a few miles south of Superior. I pulled off of Highway 35 and to the side of the road to read something and to get out of the way, only to learn that logging trucks like to turn off her too.

Today was a beautiful day. It started out a little cool, but as the afternoon went on it did get hot. This evening was cool. I took this at dusk, it really doesn't do it justice as you can barely see the ship waiting outside of the harbor. I have never skied at Spirit Mountain but it looks like it would be beautiful.

Dragon Boat Races

Today the weather was perfect with temperatures in the high 60's and low 70's Not too hot, not too cold with a little breeze.

The Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival is an annual fundraising event organized by the Superior Rotary Club, Duluth's Harbortown Rotary Club and the Superior Sunrise Centennial Rotary Club. The race is held in the Superior Bay off Barker’s Island in Superior, Wisconsin and includes a traditional dragon boat race as well as a host of other exciting and entertaining festivities.

Voyageur motel with Sheraton background

I had a hard time deciding if I should post a photo of a ship in the fog or a photo of the motel. I figured anyone seeing this blog has seen lots of photos of ships in the fog. Later I remembered that I had already made a post of the Voyager Motel. This one has the Sheraton, Duluth's tallest building, in the background. You can also see the skywalk in the right background. The city owns the parking ramp and skywalk. The skywalk was constructed over the Voyageur's airspace and the city ended owing the motel money in a lawsuit for using the airspace.

Mar. 27--How much is air worth?

For Rick and Pamela Pietrusa, the owners of the Voyageur Lakewalk Inn, the air above their parking lot is worth $545,600. That's how much the city of Duluth -- and by extension taxpayers -- will have to pay them as part of a decision made by an independent commission and filed recently in St. Louis County District Court.

Trail to Grant Elementary School

We had a couple good rainstorms today. This is 11th Street East. It dead ends here to keep the traffic down by Grant Elementary Magnet School. To the right of is an open field that Grant can use for soccer games.
