Green Pastures Dairy is a 30 minute drive from Duluth. It is located outside of Carlton, Mn.
An 89-foot high outdoor sculpture adjacent to the Swenson Science Building makes reference to elements of Duluth's surrounding native American Ojibwe culture. The sculpture was designed by John David Mooney and is called "Wild Ricing Moon," and represents the traditional wild rice harvest. "Wild Ricing Moon" was completed on June 2, 2006. This church building on the 1400 block of East Superior Street formerly housed the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Now it is the home of used bookstore, Chester Creek Books. There used to be a small, square brick building to the left in this photo which was a small school for the church. That was torn down a couple years ago. I like the tall three tall trees to the left. I wonder how old they are? Of the the photo to the left is Chester Creek. It goes underground and under Superior Street and right under the old Armory and Rose Garden before the mouth appears at Lake Superior. Read more about the Chester Creek Books here. These tall trees are on the 300 block of Fourth Street. There is now a sprinkling of snow on the ground. I never really paid any attention to these trees until today. Usually this area is full of vehicles which belong to employee's of St Mary's Hospital (SMDC). SMDC and it's paved lots now cover a large chunk of this area of the Central Hillside. Even though SMDC has a couple ramps, it still isn't enough to hold all the cars. Other businesses and a branch of St. Luke's Hospital/Clinic also contribution the landscape being covered by pavement. These are the Buena Vista Condos, built on the site of the former Buena Vista Motel. They are located on Mesaba Avenue and have a great view. I liked it when the restuarant and motel were located at this spot because it was more accessable to everyone. Currently many people who purchase the condos are from the Twin Cites, or so I have been told.
